Senator Saxy Chambliss was unable to attend the GACR State Convention last week due to a scheduling conflict - Friday night he was attending the USS Georgia’s Return to Service Ceremony at the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base. It is sometimes hard to juggle an official schedule with a campaign one. However, Saxby is trying his best to reach out to College Republicans across the state and will be in attendance at various events over the next months.
This Saturday he will be attending UGA’s G-Day Game and visiting the UGA College Republican Tailgate beforehand.

One speaker that proved especially interesting at State Convention was Kathy Kuzava, president of the Georgia Food Industry Association (represents Georgia’s grocery industry to state legislators and regulatory agencies). Kathy was there to talk about her hottest current issue: A Sunday sales bill at the state capitol.
We encourage all students to take an active part in the process of this bill (even if you’re against it!). There’s an awesome website that follows the journey of the bill — you can even link to the petition that Kathy talked about. Check out www.VoteSundaySales.com.

U.S. Model Congress Priority Registration Open!
Once a year, college students are invited to participate in the U.S. Model Congress Program, held May 27-31 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Given the intricate nature and complex structure of Congress, one of the best ways to learn more about this legislative body is to participate in this first-hand learning experience.
In the U.S. Model Congress, held in congressional committee rooms, students serve as a member of a House Committee. They are led in committee proceedings, reviewing student-drafted legislation, by former members of Congress, American Political Science Association Congressional Fellows, and congressional staff, who provide a unique and valuable education and share stories of their time in Congress, building upon the student’s knowledge.
In addition to a unique and high-quality education on Congress, students are given the opportunity to interact with their like-minded peers from around the country. Through experiences like this, students are able to gain leadership skills that they can apply to numerous ventures in the future.

Convention is over — and we’re on to a new and exciting year with Georgia College Republicans! Friday night was the Chairman’s Awards Banquet featuring GA GOP Chairman Sue Everhart, PSC Chuck Eaton, and CRNC Executive Director Ethan Eilon.
Approximately half of those in attendance were attending their first GACR event. One of our big goals this year is to reach out to new students using communication venues other than just the regular CR membership lists. Two of the attendees heard about convention through an email we sent to professors. Kind of cool.
Saturday was packed with an array of speakers sharing their stories, talking about the issues, and offering practical ways to make a difference this year. Lt. Governor Casey Cagle closed the convention out a little after 3p.m.

The Left at Agnes Scott College are ready to go insane — this Wednesday (March 12th) Bay Buchanan arrives on Agnes Scott College’s campus to address the subject of Illegal Immigration. If you’ve never heard her speak, make sure you attend. Buchanan is a cannonball of fire as she launches into the real facts of how Illegal Immigration affects our country, both now and into the future.
College Republicans are invited to attend a special reception at 6:00p.m. in the Fire Place Lounge of the Student Center. The lecture begins at 7:00p.m. in Teasley Hall of the Science Center.
